This week, we will be exploring landscapes and perspective by learning how to draw eye-catching backgrounds. By understanding foreground, midground, and background, students can create more realistic backgrounds, no matter what they are drawing. For older students, we will also be touching on atmospheric perspective and how it affects both reality and art. We will analyze examples of professional concept art, such as from Disney’s Frozen and Star Wars, as well as professional illustrations, such as James Gurney’s Dinotopia.

For this lesson, you will need:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Coloring medium of choice (optional)
